About the Album
Shanneyganock, who on November 14th.2004 were awarded “Folk/ Roots Artist of the Year” and “Entertainer of the Year” awards by The Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, are now releasing their new CD for the festive season simply titled “Christmas”. Filled with classic seasonal songs, both traditional and original, it is sure to become a much-loved part of many Newfoundland family’s holiday celebrations.
Shanneyganock’s trademark, the powerful vocals of Chris Andrews punctuate the recording, while the voice and accordion of Mark Hiscock gives the CD its distinct Newfoundland sound. On this disc the band is joined by Patrick Moran, who adds beautiful fiddle and guitar throughout the album, and a rare lead vocal performance on Snowflake.
Shanneyganock is able to find some diamonds in the rough each time they embark on a new recording project and this time is no exception. The opening song, The Wren is a beautiful but relatively unknown song that will surely become a standard. Santa’s A Bayman Like Us (written by Wince Coles) is a Newfoundland classic and will now be available on cd for the first time in many years. In the Christmas tradition, Shanneyganock have also recorded some seasonal standards like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, What Child Is This, We Three Kings, and O Holy Night, all arranged in the finest traditional style.
This CD also features The Marvelous Toy and Rusty Chevrolet which poke a little fun and show the lighter side of Christmas.
Chris Andrews wrote the recitation The Star of Logy Bay, a story about the boat that saved Christmas for an outport community. Together Mark & Chris penned another original song on the CD, Christmastime In Newfoundland, which tells the age old story of Newfoundlanders who want to be home for the Yuletide.
Shanneyganock... Christmas... Good Fun... Good Music... and Good Friends...
